Il corpo di Zizek
[Giancarlo Marchesini]
The very first contact with the image of Slavoj Zizek is quite strong. Figure brevilineo and massive, shaggy beard, long and messy halo of hair framing the forehead and temples, our pending the Marramao James concludes his rather lengthy presentation, with sleeves rolled up sitting next to re-read and correct the basic text of his lesson. In fact, in a voice set to be trained in teaching and lectures, Marramao pulls so for long - he wanted to be the official speaker? - Someone in the audience roars. Zizek, at his side, a stern appeal to pull a pen and rub on the sheets, waiting his turn. And, to repay with interest the excessive space taken away, literally just got the microphone so it comes out. "James, you gave me a portrait in profile so high that sometimes I was the impulse to look behind to see if there were it not for the other person's true. In psychoanalysis we say that too lavish praise of a person amounts to an attempt to hide his not so ... castration. " Which, you will recognize, is a well-fulminant and revealing card.
And then Zizek is the big party for its three quarters of an hour's conference. But before I comment on some of its content, I think it is worth dwelling on the description of man and the character. Some hints about his physical appearance I have already given. The tone and the sound of the voice they deserve some further mention. His voice is very special. Meanwhile, Zizek speaks in broken English that he feels dell'attraversamento result of a mother tongue other than (Zizek, a philosopher and psychoanalyst who has loved and Kant, Hegel, Marx and Heidegger critically revisited by Lacan, is in fact Slovene). The result is a hybrid mix that takes in hardness and curvy, fluid and ease harsh angularity, all charged with an energy that makes the words of Zizek, a stream of lava that would flow from deep well-springs sulfur. And these vocal sounds are the result of its own, or are otherwise in apparent close relationship, concepts and thoughts of which the vehicle is heading, and a vehement passion, and sometimes provocative Zizek in which they live and pronunciation.
Zizek does not say what he says - through the use of materials and the most diverse languages, cinema, literature, politics funny anecdote and real joke - only to communicate well with the public. Zizek is in his words, not only with his professional equipment, but his words sink into and emerge from all over himself. And holding out - or chips - carries not only his thinking, but the emotions and passions that inhabit it.
Zizek suggests a river in flood, a storm of energy, a whirlwind that carries with it a number of very large and diverse ideas, experiences and artifacts. One senses that is owned and harassed by his thought, but plasma is formed, in a battle that is fought to the point where even show up until they have unraveled and made plenty of its meaning and significance of which is the carrier.
deserve a special mention Zizek tics which accompanies the exhibition of his thought. Deserve it, if only because it repeated and obvious from - a tribute to the freedom of criticism which is the same proponent Zizek - Not being able to keep quiet. First, on a regular basis, the hands of Zizek irsutaggine taking to fix the hair in a free fall at the temples. The gesture is not functional for what it should: the hair continue to be undeterred in their scattered confusion. The real sense of the operation seemed to me rather than a danger to Zizek feared, namely that over the urgency of what's in the press shines through and overwhelm. In short, put each little hair at the temples for him means making sure that the walls of the head there is always solid, despite the force that pushes from the inside. The other
tic from which Zizek is suffering is to bring Pulse the fingers of one hand to rub the tip of the nose. And it insisted that the act so he gets a tip of the nose 'obvious imprint of redness irritation. No need to be great connoisseurs of Freudian thought to realize that the root meaning of that gesture and compulsive sexual in nature. In fact, more than likely the key to reading is that of a corporeal involved so much and so completely in the word, and space to claim citizenship. Zizek lives so deeply that his thought, lives so intensely, to also be involved sexually. Depended on him in the contest and concert parties and functions, making explicit what he feels and thinks deeply: sex included in erection.
These observations are based so that, reflecting the public who filled the hall of the Auditorium in Rome Sinopoli, people close to me and to touch them, show clearly the effects of the oratory of Zizek produces. It 'rare to be able to see expressions as intensely interested, looks so excited, so bright faces, smiles and laughter of complicity releases so explicit. The strong word, thought and exerted profound truth proposal as a naked body because it subtracted from pretense and hypocrisy, they release the listener in a palpable flow of energy.
Here, for example, the scientist Niels Bohr at the new house that is hanging a horseshoe. And the friends who are surprised to note that this was a completely unfounded superstition, unworthy of a great scientist, responds: I know well that it is as you say, but someone pointed out to me that horseshoe would bring luck to Regardless of what I believe or not. At that point, when in doubt, I thought: why not expose it to my door? So to me it does not cost anything ... Zizek tells
And again: a man had been interned in an asylum because he claimed to be a grain of corn: a risk then, walking the streets, being eaten by a few chickens in transit. After a long treatment by the doctors at the hospital, the man was finally convinced to cease being a grain of wheat. The doctors met, then the resigned. But after a few days, the man returned and asked to be welcomed back. I asked the doctors wonder why. Why - the man replied - I now know not to be a grain of wheat. But the chicken, someone said?
The problem - says Zizek - not just us, but our perception, the result of a long memory and historical experience, to submit to a state of permanent menace from someone - the chicken joke - which should that in that condition we continue to live. Everyone, though aware that it is not a grain of wheat, and experiences known to have anything to do with some chicken that he'd like to eat. E 'fear to keep us tied to a set of behaviors and choices, not our real need and interest. Without preparation and handling of the threat and fear, will we be free, or at least in a position to ask ourselves what we want to do really. The problem is that many, the thought of having to deal with this step, preferring to submit to the chicken that guarantees him at least, paradoxically, some modicum of ontological certainty. Television and Media Information does exactly that function indoctrination anesthetic, which makes the end all the more docile, incapable of challenging the existing state of things.
Zizek has long spoken of fetishism and censorship, tolerance hypocrite who is the opposite of true freedom. And here he exposed his thinking through some examples. Sexuality, for example, and how it is now land of talk and practice between their opposite and contradictory. In all matters of sexuality today is, apparently, legitimate: orgies, couples exchange, pleasures and benefits of research stimulated by a thousand additives. All you can do with everyone: gay, transgender, transvestites, etc.. On one condition: that we continue to pretend that the child is an asexual being. The sexuality of the child is the last great taboo in a world tolerant, open-minded, apparently freed. Of Freud's thought has been welcomed and accepted everything except his speech that the child is sexed to be 360 \u200b\u200b° degrees, and polymorphous perverse form. The 68 had somehow become aware of the problem, so that Cohn Bendit, who had experience in Berlin in a nursery school teacher, had given to the type of situations that arise between adults and children in a situation where it is given way to the free and spontaneous expression of the stimuli, needs and language of their own sexuality. It is curious - Zizek notes - it was the daughter Ulrike Meinhof, who founded the homonymous formation of the Red Brigades in Germany, a report today of inciting and condoning pedophilia Cohn Bendit? It is as if his daughter wanted to disassociate and distance itself, in order to punish his parents passed on, and redeem themselves in this way, in the eyes of the world antisessantottino, the leading name?
Also on the theme of racial tolerance Zizek has a particular point of view and counter. Martin Luther King was not fighting for the whites "tolerate" blacks. It claimed the substantive equality. Women, on the other hand, do not fight to be "tolerated" by man. Claim equal status, rights, equality. Tolerance is a sham and a deception so patronizing of those who does not want things to change, because it would lose its privileges.
Zizek tackles the same way the issues and positions of multiculturalism. We are not homologous and interchangeable. We are equal but different and irreducible to one another. We must stand up for truth, which is not and does not match the racial tolerance and respect for diversity and multiculturalism. For Muslims should apply the principle of freedom of their religion and build their mosques. But they must also accept that in those mosques could freely enter anyone to express his thoughts and also critical dissent, without fear per queste, sentenze, condanne, fatwa.
The '68 was the highest point of the questioning of power relations in the family (women and men, between adults and children) and society (in schools, institutions, professional associations, the judiciary, the army , printing, etc...)
E 'from the summit to push for democratic transformation and individual liberation that we must watch and judge the world today. And 'this witness is taken and reported on. Recalling that extremism is nothing but the new trapped in the past that claim to be reactivated and repeated - as pointed out by film critic Edoardo Bruno in a speech at the Auditorium the day before.
slogan among many of the '68 which, according to Zizek deserves to be raised? Be realistic, ask for the impossible.
