| A new study, then, suggests that music can be used effectively to address the language deficits in stroke patients who often have considerable difficulty in speaking. A team of researchers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School conducted a study to understand the effects of music in the care of stroke patients. The surprising fact, scientists have discovered is that person suffering from a stroke have difficulty speaking, but they can much easier to sing. Dr. Gottfried Schlaug, who led the study, said: "These interventions are very useful for stroke victims. The music is a good way to ensure that parts of the brain that do not respond, but respond. If you look at the way patients speak, their speech is a bit 'more melodic. It's almost as if they sang. " The study involved 12 stroke patients whose language skills had been compromised. Making them follow a traditional rehabilitation program has shown that all participants would then have been able to repeat the words they taught. However, two thirds of them were able to use the new way to sing words and even whole sentences that were not taught them. "The great advantage of this technique is that it is very simple. do not need to be an opera singer or an experienced musician to apply it. And we discovered that some patients are unable to speak but can sing. Encouraging people to sing you can get that they return again to talk. " He stressed the dr. Schlaug. According to the results of this study, patients may be able to negotiate with friends and family through song and smoothly over time can regain the lost fluidity of speech that is associated with the normal speech. For more take advantage of this method seems to be people who fail to grasp the melodic contour of the words, but the majority of people can be able to handle the speeches, singing, talking about where we do not succeed. The results of this study were presented at the American Association for the Advancement of Science. (Lm & sdp ) | |
